Italian inspiration: Crostata

Following a short visit to the Northern part of Italy, of course now I have a couple of ideas related to food. First one to try is crostata – a very simple and delicious desert that I had daily while in Italy.

Basically you need to bake the dough and make sure you have some home made jam –  yes, it is that easy.

The success of the dough is in the proportion, you will need 300 gr flour, 200 gr butter (or you can use butter and pork fat like I did *sin sin sin* to boost the taste), 100 gr sugar and 1 egg. Mix everything in one big dough ball and leave it for at least 30 minutes in the fridge. You can even freeze it like pastries and use it whenever you feel like a quick yummylicious desert.

Once the cold cruise is done, you need to spread the dough on the special pie tray, you know, the fancy looking one with curly edges. This job is not very easy because the sheet will be easily broken.. no need to worry, you will be able to fix it. Take pieces of dough and mend the sheet back in one big piece. Once you are happy on how the dough has covered your tray, poke it with a toothpick here and there and leave it in the oven for 15 minutes (180-200 Celsius).

Remove from the oven and put the jam on top. I have used strawberry jam and it was a blast 😀

To get the geometric look, cut the remaining dough in small pieces and feel free to create on top of the jam. After you are done with the art, put it in the oven for 15 more minutes so the dough on top will be baked.

So easy to prepare. Combination between butter and jam is always lovely so you will definitely enjoy this one.

Bon’ap!
